Our Breeding Program and Goal
Shecara Bassets is a proud breeder of exceptional quality Basset Hounds! We are dedicated to the future of our beloved breed and are committed to continual education.
Our goal is to produce outstanding Basset Hound Puppies that excel both as companions as well as the show ring. We believe in striving for a balance in all of the qualities that make a Basset Hound an excellent representative of the breed: the classic long droopy ears, loose and supple skin with lots of wrinkles, solid bone construction with massive paws, an impeccable health record and a mellow easy going temperament combined with structural soundness. We are very particular about the dogs we employ in our breeding program. These are some of the key points of our breeding program:
Structure
This is what makes a Basset Hound a Basset! The extra long velvety ears, the ginormous paws with lots of saggy baggy skin and a gorgeous pair of sad brown puppy dog eyes! But just as important is what's under the skin... the bones, the muscles, the organs, etc! We care about how all the parts fit and move together to produce the well-bred dog.
Temperament
Our breedings produce puppies with impressive temperaments! Shecara Basset Hound puppies are pleasant natured and very sociable with children, other dogs and pets, as well as strangers. Placid and affectionate, they are never agressive!
Health
We are committed to upholding the highest standards of health. We perform regular vet exams, genetic testing and health screenings on our breeding dogs in order to check for inherited conditions and reduce the incidence of undesirable disease in our Basset Hounds.
Dog Shows
We participate in Canadian Kennel Club conformation dog shows to have our dogs evaluated by judges independent of our breeding program and select superior individuals to produce the next generation. Visit our list of our many champions through the menu above!
Socialization
When you bring home a Shecara Basset Hound puppy, your puppy has already undergone an extensive socialization program. In order to provide our puppies with a strong foundation he or she has received hours and hours of important experiences to a wide variety of people, sounds, sights, smells and adventures. This advanced socialization helps to create an amazing all around dog.
Ethical Breeding Practices
Our puppies are raised without compromise! We adhere to the code of practice for breeders of the Canadian Kennel Club and Basset Hound Club of Canada, and are members of our local kennel club. Basset Hounds are our passion and we dedicate our lives to the future of the breed, our kennel and our Basset Hounds!
